Coal Electricity use is a renewable power plant designed to reduce fuel use in power plants, Coal as an energy source for electricity generation was first developed by Thomas Edison, and began operations in 1882 in New York City.
In the 60s the oil take over the role of coal as primary energy, especially with the rapidly growing transportation sector. In 2002 the role of coal supplied 23.5% of the world’s energy needs, of which 39% of the world’s electricity needs and about 64% of the steel industry use of coal as an energy source.

How is coal converted into electricity?
Steam coal or also known as thermal coal is a type of coal used as energy sources for power listrik.Mula first, the coal is reduced in size until the fines in order to increase the area permukaaannya to be more flammable. Coal is then sprayed into the high-temperature furnace. Gas and heat energy produced convert water in tubes surrounding the furnace into steam. High-pressure steam turbine rotate consisting of thousands of blades with high speed and generate generator. Furthermore, high pressure steam after passing through the turbine is cooled and returned ketungku to be heated once again. The electricity generated is transformed into high-voltage electricity to 40,000 volts to be distributed through transmission lines, and subsequently transformed into the consumer prior to use 100-250 volt.
Today the use of coal as an energy source electricity generation is 39% of world electricity demand, although some countries may be higher. As an illustration of China’s 77% electricity generation using coal as an energy source. Why can not we not? Because if the coal can be utilized as an energy source in a more optimal then this will reduce the use of fuel that is currently quite high and save foreign exchange.

Estimated coal demand
With the assumption of power plant capacity to be built until the year 2010 amounted to 20,000 MW (10,000 MW by PT. PLN (Persero) and 10,000 MW by the private sector) and the assumption that the coal used is a low-calorie coal (Low Rank Coal) which average calorific value of about 4,500 kcal / kg, the estimated demand of coal is required by 78 million tons / year with a total of Indonesia’s coal reserves amounted to 57.8 billion tons, with proven reserves of 19.3 billion tons and has been produced for 132 million tonnes.
Some things to note in Low Calorie Coal Development Program to the needs of foreign policy, among others:
• Providing incentives (special royalty) for the development of Low Rank Coal. Necessary changes in Presidential Decree No.75 of 1996
• Readiness of infrastructure for the Coal Handling
– Trasnport land / water from the mine to the Port Shipper
– Availability (capacity) Coal Terminal accompanist (shipping)
– Sea transport (barging)
– Availability (capacity) Coal Terminal Receiver (receiving)
This needs to be prepared considering the volume of domestic coal needs to be transported / distribution reaches + 100 million tons per year in 2010 (national coal production plan for 2010 is 184 million tonnes per annum + + 80 million tonnes per year Low Rank Coal).

Although coal is very efficient in reducing the fuel crisis in electricity generation, coal in our country or even in the world also has a certain capacity, if we just wear them and do not cultivate or make coal fields in the long term may be practically coal-fired plants will be extinct.–Rapat%20Tim%20Koordinasi%20Percepatan%20Pembangunan%20Pembangkit%20Tenaga%20listrik.doc?xsession=9eccb7e1eda6cf53491e117aae91bd44
